Reading Liberal Democrats are calling on Reading Borough Council to make it easier for residents to report full litter and dog waste bins by adding QR code stickers to bins across the borough.

Similar to a system already successfully used by Liberal Democrat–run South Cambridgeshire District Council, this would allow residents to simply scan a QR code on the bin with their smartphone to be taken directly to the reporting system Reading Love Clean Streets. Residents already use this app to report issues like fly-tipping and graffiti.

Cllr James Moore, Deputy Leader of the Lib Dem Group, said:

“Residents regularly contact Councillors about overflowing bins. Adding QR codes to bins is a simple, low-cost step that would make it far easier for people to report problems directly and help the Council respond more quickly. It’s an easy win for residents and for keeping Reading’s streets clean.”

The proposal will be raised at the next Full Council meeting on 14th October 2025, where Cllr Moore will ask the Council to consider adopting the scheme.
