Petition: Refurb the Milestone Centre play area

The Milestone Centre playground in Emmer Green is deteriorating fast, leaving local families with a space that's unsafe, inaccessible, and ignored.

With only two play areas in the ward, this one should be full of children during the school holidays — instead, the main gate is locked, the only working entrance is hidden with no signage, the red climbing frame is broken and boarded over, wooden steps are loose, floor planks are worn out, and cracks are forming along the mound behind the top building. This isn't wear and tear, it's neglect — and it particularly affects the Year 5 and Year 6 children from St Martins who use the space every Thursday, along with the wider community who rely on it to play, socialise, and feel safe.

Meadway Rec play area in Tilehurst proves change is possible: residents raised concerns, Lib Dem Councillors listened, a petition was organised with residents, and the Council formally recognised the playground's condition and made it a priority for improvement. The Milestone Centre playground deserves the same urgency, attention, and respect — it shouldn't be locked, hidden, broken, or left to decline while children are denied a basic, safe place to play.
