Caversham Bridge Pedestrian Crossing

Sign our petition to demand better pedestrian access at the top of Caversham bridge. This route will become a thoroughfare for children if the planned secondary school by Rivermeads goes ahead.

It is very difficult to pass between Church Street and Church Road (leading to Caversham Court Gardens). There is no obvious phase of the lights when the traffic is stationary for long enough, and no pedestrian signal. Children, older residents and those with limited mobility especially need more time to cross safely.

Caversham crossing.

It is also difficult to cross further up the hill due to reduced visibility and fast moving traffic. Many businesses in the area should be more accessible to pedestrians shopping on Church Street.

We would all benefit if more residents felt able to travel on foot or by bicycle. This would reduce the pressure on our roads.

We are asking the council to explore ways of making the crossing more approachable on foot, including adding a pedestrian signal.

Join us in calling for safer and better access across this junction.

We, the undersigned, ask Reading Borough Council to explore ways of making the junction at Church Street and Church Road in Caversham easier and safer for pedestrians and cyclists to cross, including adding a pedestrian signal.
