Pete Beard to stand for Council
18 March 2008
|
Another year, another election and Tilehurst Lib Dems have re-selected Pete Beard to stand again for the Council in Tilehurst Ward on May 1st.
Pete is well-known locally and lives in the village. He moved with his family to Tilehurst in 1970, having just completed 12 years in the RAF. He started work as a computer engineer with ICL, and in 1974 was elected as a Liberal Councillor for Norcot Ward. He stood down in 1981, as his job moved away from Reading, but he still kept in touch, helping with delivering and canvassing around the Tilehurst area. In 2001 when Jim Day decided that, at the age of 81, he would stand down, Pete was asked to stand as a Lib-Dem candidate for Tilehurst Ward, and was duly elected with a healthy majority. Pete was re-elected in 2004.
Pete’s main interests are sport and keeping fit, and at the age of nearly 70 still runs half-marathons, plays golf and skis.
On the Council Pete is the Lib Dem spokesperson for Sport and Culture and Community Care as well as being Deputy Mayor, a position he is very proud of. |
