BOB GREEN entered politics late after a career in the Civil Service, where he ended up as a senior official in the Department of the Environment before taking early retirement. He has represented Peppard Ward on Reading Borough Council since 1995. He was also a Berkshire County Councillor from 1995 to 1998, chairing the Social Services Committee. Mayor of Reading, 2000-2001, he has led the Liberal Democrats on Reading Borough Council since 2001.
As well as leading the Group, he is Lib Dem spokesperson on social services and health and on planning. He is also Chair of the Council’s Culture Scrutiny Panel.
Outside politics, he is actively involved in amateur dramatics as a founder member of Caversham Theatre, for whom he both acts and directs. He and Jill have been married for 41 years and have one grown up daughter.
